A young outcast followed by crows finds a flower in the forest one night - it is the Dreamer's Lotus, a powerful hallucinogen that opens the mind to the meanings of the symbols. This can be helpful, especially when you live in a world where everything is symbolic.

The crow is a dangerous sign that is helping Corvus to transform dreams into reality, though everyone knows that manifestation will get you banished. There is an old lunatic named Obiticus who lives in the forest. He wants to manifest a new world, and Corvus is the key to his plan. Obiticus speaks of things that are forbidden - he knows secrets that only the awakened will understand. Corvus is desperate to know the truth, but even enlightenment has its price.

The Dreamer's Lotus, book one of the epic Lucidity Series, is a parable for our times. The Dreamer's Lotus examines the concept of what it means to "awaken," and reveals the perils of sharing a vision of a better world with those who think you are crazy. A book for lovers of adventure, wilderness, fantasy and philosophy, The Dreamer's Lotus will make you question everything you believe.

Interesting premise and engaging writing style. I was reminded a little of the works by Carlos Castaneda while reading this--I won't say any more about that, don't want to include spoilers! Also some clear political overtones to consider. I am interested to see where the story leads our protagonist next!

The Dreamer Lotus The Sacred Symbol The Lucidity Series Book 1 eBook Mike Dickenson Reviews

I've been reading Dreamer's Lotus for my three year old as a bedtime story. It is obviously young adult but I prefer books with more vocabulary and adult style dialouge for reading out loud. This is an excellent story for all ages. I might be enjoying it more than my young daughter for now but it certainly would be an entertaining read for anyone with a 5th grade reading level and above. What makes this book special is that the setting isn't overly fantastic or dystopic. The day to day life and conflicts of the protagonist are easily accesible to teens. One of my favorite sci fi books is Ender's Game with very similar themes of exceptionalism, isolation, and rejection of authority. The real treat with DL is that nature is treated as a character of primary importance to the story. If your young adult has picked up Thoreau, Abbey, Muir or if their age mandates fiction as a precursor to the preceding authors Dreamer's Lotus is an excellent choice.
In this day an age, we need average - not so average - individuals to make a stand. Although this book was written in a fictitious era, people and power continue to conflict the masses. This book transcends the boundaries of your "average joe" typecast individual that seeks answers to questions they weren't quite aware existed. The current realities that we face run parallel to what Corvus faces throughout the book and it is his search for truth that's inspiring. What's most profound is where he is able to find his answers - outside. As we begin to lose our connection to the wild, it's nice to have an author bring us back to the ever present, real, quiet, incredible spaces that the outdoor brings us. The descriptions, the sensations, the emotions that the boy feels, hopefully liven up and create a sense of wonder in these outdoor spaces for children and adults alike.
Well Corvus is a cool guy, who happens to be followed by a group of crows. So he needs to figure out why, then becomes and outcast, then has to deal with his powers. Seems easy enough right?

So his friend tries to convince him to visit the forest. If thats where the crows come from then maybe he can get his answers there. Well you see, no one really goes into the forest. Its not safe and who knows if he'll stay safe and be able to take care of things before the village is taken over by the crows. Well nothing really comes easy, so Corvus works at being an outsider and at his powers and eventually progress is made and hopefully soon he will have it all figured out.

I like how the lotus was brought into this story. Its a very beautiful flower and I've seen it mentioned in books as that. I liked seeing how it was written differently in this book, and if you like how its used as a hallucinogen, you should see the Percy Jackson movies.....

Anyway, I really liked the writing in this book. It was simple and easy for anyone to read. You get a lot of detail without it being overdone and make you lose interest. The story is unique and easily sucks you in until the end. I can't wait to see how things go in the next book!
This book is high on symbolism and weaves a tale of fantasy, intrigue, and life questions. I read this to my husband on the beach at Tahoe this summer which felt like a perfect place to be reminded of the questions posed in the book. What is our connection to nature? What happens when we truly stop listening to the forces around us? What is our role in life? The coming into adulthood quest for the main character is well developed complete with an awakening of his hormones. Because of the beautiful, but somewhat lengthy descriptions, and the philosophical musings, I would not recommend this for a younger reader. As a teacher fairly familiar with the middle school age mindset, I would start this for the gifted eighth grader, but find the complexities of the characters and the dream sequences to be more appropriate and indeed intriguing for high schoolers. I think some of the beauty of the tale would be above the thought processes of fifth through seventh graders. We read this for our book group, and the discussion we had was one of the better ones we have had due to the high caliber of symbolic nuances . There is much to be interpreted, questioned and reflected upon. I rated four stars because of my personal preferences to other genres. I do hope the second book comes out soon so I can find out WHAT'S NEXT!!!
I think there is real potential here, because for the most part, the characters are interesting and I could care about what happened to them. However, the writer really needs to work with a professional editor, as it is an unpolished work.
This book is a fantastic read. I loved the development of the characters, the incredible imagery of the forest, the village and the dream state of the main character Corvus. It was so vivid. The tone of the book also called to me - speaking to the current state of our world through philosophical undertones and insights into the modern-day hero's journey. If you love wilderness as a rite of passage, then this book is for you and those you love. It is a real tale of rising above the odds in the name of your inner calling!
Interesting premise and engaging writing style. I was reminded a little of the works by Carlos Castaneda while reading this--I won't say any more about that, don't want to include spoilers!
